  • Selfie and livenessA selfie and liveness check confirms that a live person took the selfie or video and that it matches the photo on their ID document.
  • Database checkA database check compares the name, address, date of birth or ID number your user gives against credit bureau, government or telecom records. What it can check differs from country to country.

KYC questions

What is a KYC API?

A KYC (know your customer) API checks that a user is who they say they are. The common checks are an ID document check and a selfie with liveness matched to the document. Some countries also support a database check of name, address and date of birth against official or credit records, or a national eID such as BankID or MitID. Businesses get a separate check (KYB) against company registries.

Which KYC providers are in Unirail's catalogue?

The catalogue lists Plaid, Onfido (Entrust), Sumsub, Persona, Veriff, Jumio, Stripe Identity and Signicat for identity checks and ComplyAdvantage for screening. Each provider page lists its checks by country with the documentation page each claim came from.

Which identity checks can Unirail route today?

Unirail routes ID document checks, selfie and liveness checks and database checks to Plaid in the United Kingdom, running whichever of them your Plaid Identity Verification template enables. The other identity providers are listed from their own documentation. Unirail doesn't route to them yet.

Can I use different KYC providers in different countries?

The catalogue shows which provider covers each identity check in each country. Routing between identity providers needs each of them integrated. Today Unirail routes identity checks to Plaid in the UK only. If you contract with another identity provider, tell us the countries you need.

What's the difference between a document check and a database check?

A document check captures a government ID and checks that it's genuine, usually with a selfie matched to the photo. A database check needs no document. It compares the name, address, date of birth or ID number the user typed against bureau, government or telecom records. Coverage varies a lot by country.

Is sanctions screening part of KYC?

It usually runs alongside KYC. Screening checks people and businesses against sanctions, politically exposed person (PEP) and adverse media lists, once at onboarding and then on an ongoing basis. The matrix above shows screening providers by country next to the identity checks.
